Waltham, MA – May 16, 2007 –
Authoria, Inc., the leader in integrated talent management solutions, is one of a select group of companies invited to demonstrate IT products and innovations that are improving the quality of, and access to, healthcare. The Capitol Hill HIT Solutions Technology event is being held in Washington, D.C. on May 16 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building Room 50, as part of National Health IT Week 2007. U.S. Senators and Representatives and their staffs have been invited, and the public is also welcome.
“One of the key challenges facing the U.S. healthcare system is the need to improve employees’ access to, and understanding of, the healthcare benefits to which they are entitled,” said Tod Loofbourrow, Authoria’s Chairman and CEO. “According to a MetLife survey, only 36 percent of employers believe their employees understand the true value and cost of their benefits, and only 33 percent of employees feel strongly that employer benefit communications have helped them make the best choices.”
“For the past 10 years, our Authoria Communications solutions have helped employers educate employees in an unbiased way about the health-plan choices available to them, the cost and value of their health-plan options, and how best to use their healthcare benefits when dealing with significant life events,” Loofbourrow continued. “We’re delighted to be meeting with policymakers at the HIT Technology Demonstration, to advance the important national discussion about how IT can improve the quality and availability of healthcare.”
Authoria Communications, a core component of the company’s integrated talent management (ITM) solution, provides employees with online access to up-to-date, personalized benefit and policy information. By delivering a wealth of information about plan options and healthcare benefits when and where employees need it, the product empowers employees to become informed healthcare consumers, and thus to make better healthcare decisions. Authoria Communications 2007, a substantial upgrade that became available in April, adds new capabilities including support for new browsers and enhanced searching.
National Health IT Week, being held May 14–18, is a broad-based collaborative effort to accelerate national health information technology adoption. The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), responsible for many of the week’s activities, frames and leads healthcare public policy and industry practices through advocacy, educational, and professional-development initiatives. More information on this National Health IT Week is available at http://www.healthitweek.org.
