Authoria Helps Employers Reintegrate National Guard and Military Reservists

Consolidated Information to Help Employers Welcome Employees Returning from Active Duty

Waltham, MA – November 11, 2004 –

Authoria, Inc., a leader in strategic Human Capital Management (HCM), announced today that it has developed information to help customers better meet the needs of employees returning from military active duty.  This information will help employers provide details of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and communicate policies regarding military service and reintegration into the workplace.  Designed to work with Authoria’s Employee Advisor™ software solution, this content will be available to current Authoria customers at no additional cost.

Every week, the number of National Guards and Military Reservists placed on active duty continues to rise.  As of November 3, 179,594 members were deployed.  Following the attacks of September 11th, nearly a quarter million members of the National Guard and Reserves have been called to full-time active duty.  This is the largest sustained deployment since the Second World War.  While employers have been able to easily accommodate typical Guard or Reserve deployments, the current global conflicts have resulted in longer tours not anticipated by many businesses.  Companies are working hard to successfully reintegrate returning Guards and Reservists into the workplace, but the nature of today’s deployments presents new challenges.

“At Authoria, we are keenly aware of the importance of employees to the success of any organization,” said Tod Loofbourrow, president and CEO, Authoria.  “Managing employees is a challenge in the easiest of times.  Successfully reintegrating thousands of returning Guards and Reservists is a huge challenge for HR professionals and often a difficult transition for employees.  The information that needs to be communicated, for example USERRA, is critical to returning Guards, Reservists and their families; but it can also seem complicated and confusing.  Authoria’s goal is to help customers make this information readily available in a concise and timely manner.”

David Link, a vice president at The Cedar Group and a recognized thought leader in HCM technology, highlighted the impact of this issue.  “The historic levels of Guard and Reservist deployments in the past 36 months has created a new pressure point for employers - at a time when managing Human Capital is a growing priority,” explained Link.  “Employers have an important role in supporting those called to active duty, assisting them and their families during deployment and ensuring their smooth reintegration into the workforce.  Authoria is again showing its ability to help employers provide the personalized and timely information that is the foundation of successful Human Capital Management.”

This new information has been developed to work with Authoria’s Employee Advisor product.  Authoria Employee Advisor delivers a strategic approach to employee communication including benefits, total compensation statements, and human resource policy information. It provides a powerful self-service experience to employees and managers.

In addition to returning reservists, Authoria customers can also make the content available to managers and representatives in company call centers--often the first resources to which employees turn to with questions. For both managers and call center representatives, the content can be enhanced to offer “coaching tips” that provide an additional layer of insight and support around handling issues related to returning reservists.
